Our History

Over 24 Years of God's Amazing Grace and Favor

God has brought Trinity Missionary Baptist Church "a mighty long way."

It all started on May 11, 1986 under the leadership of the late Rev. Billy Buford. The initial congregation consisted of (53) fifty-three members. The original pioneers met at Vogue House of Beauty Boutique and unanimously approved a most befitting name, "Trinity." The first worship service was held at 401 N. Locust St. at the home of Laney Goodlow on May 18, 1986 where (53) fifty-three members were accepted and Pastor Buford was affirmed as the founding pastor.

On June 16, 1986, Trinity shared 202 Stevenson St. with Pentecostal Tabernacle Church (Pastor Wade Fuller).

On July 20, 1986 (11) eleven lots were purchased at 606 S. Marietta St.; this would be the site of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church.

Trinity Missionary Baptist Church was certified by the Muscle Shoals Association as a Missionary Baptist Church on October 14, 1986.

Pastor Buford was a dynamic leader, a respected clergyman, and a visionary. He passed away unexpectedly on December 1, 1990. Just before his demise, he shared these words with a few members at his bedside: "STAY TOGETHER." Little did they know at that time —he was positioning them for destiny! Amid one of the greatest pains of their lives, Trinity proclaimed, "Lord YOU Brought Us All The Way," and the congregation stood to complete what God had ordained. Over the next 17 years, Pastor Buford was followed by (4) four pastors; Rev. Mitchell Reed, Rev. Tommie Clay, Rev. Edward Martin, and presently, Rev. Trevor Crenshaw.

The church has reached new heights under this young innovative pastor. Membership has surged from (53) members to more than 250 members with an average of 200 weekly attendees who are spiritually armed to evangelize, equip, encourage, and empower others

It's an exciting time at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church! As Pastor Crenshaw always reminds us, "A Healthy Church Is A Growing Church!"
